Last week two of my former ESL students, brother and sister Eliberto and Mirian, were detained by ICE in Minneapolis. They weren't given the opportunity to collect any of their belongings from their apartment, and currently own little more than the clothes on their back. Mirian is in a detention facility and will likely be deported in the next few days. Eliberto has already been sent back to Guatemala, where he and his family face financial uncertainty, having been largely supported by his and Mirian's income from working full time at a Taco Bell in the Minneapolis suburbs. Until they are able to find employment and some financial stability, they are in need of a little support.
