On Wednesday, January 7th, my father, Duane, was rushed to the hospital after experiencing shortness of breath and severe weakness. By the following Monday, we learned that his liver and kidneys were not functioning properly, and our family was suddenly in a fight to save his life. A week later, he is still in the hospital, bravely battling to recover. This is not the first time my father has faced a serious health challenge. In 2012, he was diagnosed with fungal meningitis, which required weeks of hospitalization and left his body weakened for a long-term fight. These ongoing health struggles have taken a toll on him and our family, both emotionally and financially. As my father continues his fight in the hospital, my mother is doing everything she can to keep our household running. The mounting medical bills and everyday expenses are adding stress during an already difficult time.
