Dear Brother Rats,
Almost two years ago, we reached out to you all with some difficult news about Dave Hall’s wife Vicky, who was diagnosed with cancer and needed financial support to fight this formidable adversary. You all responded with significant support to the Hall family. Dave’s gratitude goes way beyond words and his love for all of you is immeasurable. With your support, Vicky was able to fight this cancer and push it into a state of brief remission. I regret to tell you that Vicky’s cancer came back, and more aggressively than ever. This past year, Vicky has participated in many different trials through the UVA medical system. Dave has been by her side through all of it. Periods of hope were followed quickly by the difficult news that the trials were not working. For Vicky and Dave, they have come to their most desperate hour. UVA has nothing more to offer them.
This news has not swayed Vicky and Dave from finding the ultimate treatment that will extend Vicky’s life. Their hope and optimism are truly inspiring. They are now focused on possible trials in Baltimore and Houston. Dave has said to me that these past two years have been the most difficult in their lives, but he has been blessed to have his Brother Rats in his corner through it all.
The effort, time, and cost associated with these out-of-state trials will again bring an additional emotional, physical, and financial strain due to treatment costs, travel costs, and loss of income as Vicky has not been able to work this past year and Dave must take unpaid leave when they travel.
Financial Need: With Vicky no longer working and Dave having to take unpaid leave, the family faces a considerable loss of income, compounded by travel costs and medical expenses that will quickly surpass their insurance cap. Your support will help ease this burden and allow Dave to focus on caring for Vicky.
Material and Emotional Support: Beyond financial contributions, there are tangible ways we can offer support—from lodging accommodations during treatment sessions to continued small gestures of respite for Dave, such as sending a meal to his family, taking Dave out for a simple meal with friends, or just a phone call. These acts can provide immense relief and strength to both Dave, Vicky, and their daughters during this ordeal.
This is more than a call for financial assistance; it's an invitation to stand by a Brother Rat and his family when they need us most. Your involvement will significantly impact the Halls' fight through this challenging time. We appreciate all the support you have provided to the Halls in the past. Let us rally together again in support of Dave and Vicky, offering our strength, resources, and unwavering support in their time of need.
With deepest gratitude,
