Darlene Jackson is not only my best friend, but also the dedicated tobacco Barn Manager at Brookshire Brothers in Giddings, Texas. Recently, everything changed for her in the blink of an eye. One day at work, I noticed Darlene wasn’t talking very well, and I encouraged her to see a doctor. Her daughter took her in, and after a series of tests, the doctors discovered three lesions on her brain, a knot in her throat, and a knot on her breast. The news was devastating: Darlene has cancer. She was hospitalized for several days and, although she was just released, she is still struggling with slurred speech and the effects of her diagnosis.

This sudden turn has completely upended Darlene’s life. She is unable to work, and with her husband at home, they are now facing mounting bills and daily expenses with no steady income. Darlene has always been the first to help others, and now she needs our help more than ever. The costs of medical care, travel for treatment, and basic household needs are overwhelming for her family.
