My cousin Ashley Webb and her husband Ty Webb are expecting their first baby in July. A sweet baby girl!
At their anatomy scan, the doctors discovered a mass in her abdomen/near her bottom. Found out to be a tumor called Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT for short). It is extremely rare and typically are benign but have a chance of having cancerous components.
Baby girl has type 3 SCT (most of the tumor is internal). Her tumor is thankfully more cystic which is ideal in these cases. The tumor is pushing on some of her organs, although everything is still working great as of now. The greatest risk is the tumor affecting the baby’s heart, which could then affect mommas heart.
Ashley and baby are having to have weekly appointments. Right now, she’s going every other week to Cincinnati and the opposite week she has an appointment here.
If at any point they think the cyst is too large and pushing too much on her organs, they will have to go in with a needle through her stomach.
At any point, Ashley could be hospitalized.
They will have to relocate to Cincinnati around 35 weeks to be close to the hospital awaiting baby’s arrival. They will then also have to stay there until baby can come home.
Baby girl will need surgery to remove the tumor once she’s born. If she’s preemie, they will delay surgery. If she’s full term, they will perform surgery immediately.
The doctors are preparing them for months at the hospital so they know how long it will be.
Baby girl will also be going through appointments for at least the first 3-5 years of her life.
I am starting this go fund me to help them with all the gas, missing work, bills, food, things for baby girl, living far from home, etc. This is something no parent wants their baby to go through but thankfully Ashley and Ty are strong and have a huge support system.
Ashleys father is also not doing well with his cancer, which makes things even harder for Ashley and her family. Her dad, has stage 4 terminal Glioblastoma brain cancer. He has been given 2 weeks left to live.
She/they need all the help and support they can get.
