Please Help Our “Second Mother” and Her Daughter Rebuild in Jamaica. Our beloved Eva and her daughter Synomie lost nearly everything when Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica. Their home in Sav-la-Mar was destroyed, and Synomie is still living there in unsafe, flooded conditions. Please help them rebuild — no donation is too small, and every dollar goes directly to repairs and essentials.
My name is Susan Glanzberg, and along with my siblings, Regina and Michael, we’re raising funds for Eva Atkins — the woman who cared for us as children, became our second mother, and has remained part of our family ever since.
This fundraiser supports Eva, her daughter Synomie Donaldson, and their family in Sav-la-Mar, Jamaica, whose home was devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
For decades, Eva and Synomie have given love and care to our family and so many others. Now they need our help.
Eva’s cousin Hope helped raise my children, and Synomie lovingly cared for our mother and cousin for many years. Our families have shared every milestone and loss — proving that family isn’t only by blood.
Eva filled our home with Jamaican warmth, stories, and the smells of her cooking — curried chicken, rice and peas, jerk chicken, sweet-and-sour meatballs. Those dishes still remind us of her laughter, strength, and love.
In the photos above, you’ll see Synomie with my brother and sister, and Eva with me and with my brother, Michael — bonds of family that have lasted a lifetime.
Eva’s home, the one she hoped to retire in, was essentially destroyed. Synomie cannot safely live there. There’s no power, almost no roof, mostly flooded conditions and almost nothing left of their personal possessions.

How Your Donation Helps
Every dollar makes a real difference:
• $50 provides a week of groceries and clean water.
• $100 buys materials and local labor for repairs.
• $250 helps replace furniture and daily essentials.
• $500 contributes toward rebuilding the roof.
All funds go directly to rebuilding and recovery. I will withdraw the funds to my U.S. account and coordinate with Eva and Synomie’s family in Brooklyn, who are arranging shipments of supplies and materials to Jamaica.

⏰ Why It’s Urgent
The family needs a safe, livable space before the next heavy rains in December.
Your help right now can mean the difference between temporary shelter and a repaired home.
Please donate or share to help Eva, Synomie, and their family rebuild their home, their hope, and their lives.
They had no insurance — and this loss has been devastating.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Susan, Michael, and Regina Glanzberg⸻
