On February 19th, my beloved wife Erika, was struck by a vehicle while she was in the cross walk leaving work. The driver of the vehicle didn’t yield to her as a pedestrian when she had walk on the cross.
Erika had several life saving surgeries and she wasn’t stable until week 4. She has severe traumatic brain injury, she’s unable to walk, talk, and she’s currently not aware of her surroundings.
She’s made improvements to be able to follow some commands, but she is currently in the MCS(minimal consciousness state).
Erika and I have been together since we were 15 years old, we’re high school sweethearts. She chose me when I had nothing to my name.
During her 3rd week in the ICU a doctor told me I would have to let her go in 2 months. I refused, and I told him Erika has had abandonment issues since her childhood and I wasn’t going to abandon her, especially not now.
Erika is a sweet, fun loving person. She’s a teacher, she’s a devoted Christian that went to Bible study on Tuesdays and service on Sunday. She would plant plants and forget to water them. She stood by me through 13 years in the Navy and 6 deployments.
She didn’t deserve this; no one does.
Please share this with your friends and family. Every bit helps, God bless.
The fundraiser is goal is 50,000. GoFundMe has it set to a lower goal, once that goal is reached it moves the goal. I’m unsure on how to change it; it’s my first time using it.
P.S.- Here’s her first smile since the accident.
