Support Craig's Fight Against Liver Disease

My name is Brenda Turner. My husband, James, most people know him as Craig, was in the hospital twice over the last couple of years for internal bleeding for 3 weeks total. He had to have numerous transfusions during this time, and had to go through alot of tests. Ruling out colon cancer was one of the first things we had to do. To say we were scared is an understatement. The first thing we did was to thank God when we found out it wasn't colon cancer. We later found out that he has liver disease. Since the beginning of t 2024, he had to go and have approximately 10 liters of fluid drained each week. This not only affects his breathing, but also causes him to have very painful cramps.

Because he was not a candidate for transplant at the time, along with the Drs advisement, we decided on going a different route. In Sept. He had a Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) operation

Update: Craig had the tips procedure performed in September of 2024. He spent 16 days in the hospital due to complications. And was admitted again in November due to internal bleeding for 10 days. By getting the tips procedure done (which was the only choice we had to help with his liver at the time), he developed hepatic encephalopathy and has to take medicine for this daily. He still has to have fluid drained and developed a bacterial infection. On Feb 24th, Craig had to be put on iv antibiotics in the hospital

He continues to struggle with his liver and ended up being transferred to Richmond hospital, and was moved to ccu dept on Friday evening. Thank God the outcome was better than the Drs thought it was going to be. However, he is still in CCU and going through tests and procedures to help make him stronger. At this time we are praying he will be able to get a liver transplant ( the only thing that will make him better). While I understand this will be one of the toughest things emotionally and financially we will face, I also know it will be worth it to him and our family. While we have insurance. not all prcedures and medicines are not covered. or only a small percentage are paid. If you feel led to contribute, we will use these funds to offset medical costs. Update: We got news yesterday evening that Craig is not a candidate for a liver transplant. This is devastating news, as this is what he needs. At this time, he is struggling and not doing well. Only thing that is going to help at this time is prayer. Please, everyone pray.
