Support Castillo Family

Last Friday, September 28th, a judge decided that two young children whose parents are of Mexican origin could stay in Canada, but ordered their mother deported to Mexico. This left the grade school age kids, who are Canadian citizens and speak little Spanish, with a choice to either stay in Canada on their own, or move to Mexico and be exposed to the crime and violence in that country. Their father had been deported back to Mexico last year. Can you guess the North American country where this took place…?

This took place in North York, Ontario where a year ago and a half ago, Sergio and Adriana Castillo were engaged members of the community. Their kids Santiago and Canek were happily part of the school system. Sergio worked in construction, and they had friends throughout the community.  Since the time Sergio has been gone, the family’s savings have been decimated by legal fees, and the family has struggled to make ends meet.

As you can imagine this sudden trauma isn’t the best we can do for these kids and this family. As Canadians we like to think we are better than our southern neighbors. However, the same things we shake our heads at in Texas are happening right next door. This family is missed by their friends, and the children's classmates are confused. What are we going to say we did to help?

With your support we can help this family in rebuilding their life. Canek and Santiago do not have Mexican citizenship and would have to pay to attend school. Your support can also help with the family's current humanitarian and compassionate application that is being processed. The next few months will be a very challenging and chaotic time for the entire family. Our support will make a huge and lasting impact and will help them during this transition period
