In 2017 BONSAI ANGELS was set up by Tony Tickle to recognise those individuals who work tirelessly to promote and further the art and horticulture of Bonsai, be it at club, national or international level. BONSAI ANGELS is a not-for-profit undertaking supported by donations.
Tony createdBONSAI ANGELS because so many people he met on his bonsai journey helped him create beautiful trees. Tony said “They do it for the joy of spreading knowledge and they give of their expertise freely. I know that many of these people go almost unrecognised be it at club, national or international level.”
The first recipient of the award wasChristian Vos from Belgium for his tireless devotion to the promotion of the Noelanders Trophy and support for the Bonsai Association in Belgium. This took place at The Trophy gala dinner in February 2018
Christian Vos on receiving the Award said “I have got a prize for my bonsai, but this award is something special, nothing to do with money. I am quite proud of it. When after getting the award they asked me how I did it, I could answer with one word ‘passion’ when someone does what he has to do with passion, he will succeed. “
Bonsai Angels receive silver pin lapel badge with real gold wings and silver bonsai scissors created and currently donated by Frank Mihalic from the USA. They are featured on a role of Honour on www.bonsaiangels.com and a certificate to display. To date 35 nominations have been received, and 13 have been awarded.
To continue rewarding these deserving individuals please donate any amount you can. The money will go towards covering the cost of, posting, printing and framing certificates, pins, website hosting etc.
Do you know somebody that has helped you develop your skills, or someone that organises a club, society or study group an event or show? Do you value a friend who selflessly gives up their time to support you?
Bonsai Angels is a way of recognising and telling the bonsai world how great they are. Anybody can nominate someone so long as that person promotes bonsai and its associated art forms.
There is no timescale or guarantees, only few nominations will be elevated to the status of a Bonsai Angel, they will be announced as and when appropriate.
