Hello! Our names are Ayan and Morissa, and we are two young Black womxn organizing on Algonquin territory (Ottawa). We host a book club called "BlackThots" and are dedicated to making it a space that feeds and fosters love, joy, trust, and freedom dreams in trans and cis Black womxn, and Black nonbinary people.

BlackThots is a reading circle that centers Black women and gender non conforming artists in an effort to explore Black feminist thought, build community consciousness, and share life.
We’ve gone to the theatre together, the beach, the Black Gurl Prom (a prom for Black trans, cis and nonbinary folx). This month, we’re going to summer camp! “Camp Thot” will be two double dutch and samosa filled days of outdoor inner child guided fun to end a hot summer on a joyful note :)
As we continue to hold gatherings each month, we are opening up this avenue to allow community members to support us by donating to help cover the costs associated with putting on events as well as a BlackGurl Mutual aid.
The Black Gurl Mutual Aid will be a pool of money for trans, cis and nonbinary folx that are down on their luck, in need of funds for whatever reason as we want to break through the stigma of poverty and Black folx and push the narrative of Black womxn being able and free to enjoy themselves and have nice things and that is something we would like to partake in..
Here’s a breakdown of our fundraising goal:
$500 fundraising goal
FOOD & WATER: $250
PPE: $50
SUPPLIES FOR ACTIVITIES: $50
FUTURE LINK UPS (will also go towards books, hopefully a website, food, and mutual aid): $150 and any extra funds.
We are taking measures to ensure everyone’s safety, and limit the risk of COVID-19 infection.
