Hello! My name is Katie and I am baby A's mommy. We were set to deliver our son on 7/31/24 but due to me having high blood pressure they decided to take him early on 07/29/24. Baby A was born at 6:57 PM via cesarean and immediately we noticed he needed some help with breathing. Baby was taken to blank NICU and diagnosed with severe Pulmonary Hypertension and has been on a breathing machine and multiple medications since. We haven't been able to hold Baby A at all. About 36 hours after his birth and multiple tests and medications, Blank notified us that they would like to transfer him to Iowa City NICU because he wasn't getting any better and he kept spiking fevers. Baby A was life flighted up to Iowa City and has been doing well the last 24 hours! he is still on sedation medication and medicine to paralyze him to keep him calm, the plan is to try and figure out what medications we can give to help give his heart be less stressed and get some of the pressure out of his lungs. We have a journey ahead of us with an unknown timeline, thankfully family is helping us with care for our 3 year old son at home but Nate and I have spent every moment with Baby A and with this comes financial woes. Katie works for the school district with an unpaid summer and unpaid maternity leave, Nate is the main source of income and obviously can't attend work for the time being. Any donation you can give us would be much appreciated, it's hard enough watching your child fight for his life but to worry about how our bills will be taken care of causes us lots of extra unnecessary stress that we just don't need right now. Right now we are on the waiting list for the Ronald Mcdonald House up here in Iowa City, we currently are getting a discount at a nearby hotel so thats helpful. We will use the money raised to help with gas, food, hotel stays and any other needs for Bennett or A moving forward. We appreciate all of the prayers love and support.
