Support Abigail: A Single Mom's Journey

Hello there! My name is Abigail. I am a full-time Math 6 Teacher & single mother of soon-to-be 3 beautiful babies! I have a daughter, Saiyr, who is 4, and a son, Jahiyr, who is 2. I am currently pregnant and almost at the finish line to deliver my baby girl this Valentine’s Day on February 14th.

I recently discovered that my job WILL NOT be funding my maternity leave due to not being with the company for a full 12 months. This news has been very disheartening due to the fact that it’s just me that takes care of my babies. I don’t have your normal village and that’s okay, but I am truly grateful for the people who are a part of my little village and do their best to extend a hand when possible.

I didn’t choose to be a single mom. I have gone through this entire pregnancy alone while caring for two toddlers. My child’s father completely ghosted me at the news of finding out I was pregnant, after asking me to get an abortion on the day I saw my first ultrasound. He moved out of state and has gone no contact my entire pregnancy. Though it has been hard, I have remained strong and steadfast. I have worked diligently to prepare for this life change. The entire time I have been teaching, I was under the impression that my maternity leave would be paid so that I could take my necessary time off to mother my newborn.

With no financial help, I will be forced to remove my toddlers from daycare and keep them home while caring for my newborn. Again, it is just me. Mentally and physically, this task will be hard, but I will always do what I have to do for us as a unit! If you can contribute in any way, it would mean the world to my family. If you can’t contribute but at least can share this with friends and family who can, I would truly appreciate it!

This is only part of my story, and though this chapter seems cloudy, I know that all things get better! If you would like to be a part of my village, any amount contributed matters. Thank you!
