Support this campaign to bring four LGBTQ+ youth under serious threat in Uganda to relocate to DR Congo and rebuild their lives.

This Fundraiser is supported by the Chakula programme at The Africa Centre.

Situation

For the past two years, Action Pour Le Developpment Durable (ADD) have been helping adolescents and youth from sexual minority groups in Eastern African region. They provide capacity building and livelihood schemes and at the same time they guide them in entrepreneurial initiatives. They sent 4 of their beneficiaries to neighbouring Uganda so that they could learn English and take some vocational training courses which fitted their future ambitions.

Since the passing of Uganda’s anti-homosexuality act in 2023, their four friends face a series of stigma and discrimination, including threats from their landlord and the neighbours. They were forced to leave the house they rented and are now living discreetly like fugitives. The rise of anti-LGBTQ+ laws and sentiment in Uganda has had an impact on neighbouring countries and the work ADD does in the region.

With the proceeds of this fundraiser, ADD aims to relocate the four LGBTQ+ youth under serious threat in Uganda to DR Congo so they can rebuild their lives.

The target is £6,561 (more detailed breakdown below)
