My name is Sarah McGeorge and I am Stephen's older sister. I am raising funds to help off set the costs for his funeral. Before I get to far I would like to talk about Stephen and who he was to my family and friends.
Stephen was 21 years old when he passed away on June 29th, 2016. He died from a brain tumor that is called pilocytic astrocytoma. He was first diagnosed with the tumor when he was 6 years old. Stephen had surgery and radiation to try to reduce the tumor. He recovered remarkably well with some minor set backs. 10 years later, his tumor returned and had more surgery and radiation to remove more of the tumor. He was treated with chemotherapy, but it did not help reduce the size of the tumor. Several months later he lost the ability to walk and was wheelchair bound. The last few months of his life he started to lose the ability to do different things. We finally found out that he had a bleed in his brain from the tumor a few days before he died.
Despite all of his set backs, he lived as though he did not have a disability. He was always happy and positive even when he was having a rough day. Stephen's positivity touched so many people and it shows when they talk about him. He was strong and pushed through each set back. He became our very own Superman. Stephen taught me how to look at life and really appreciate what I have. He was so thankful for all that he had. He was very prayerful and loved being in the church. Stephen touched so many lives that we know he will truly be missed.
I am asking for help with the cost of the funeral for my family. You truly do not know what the cost of a funeral is until you are trying to make all those decisions. My family was not prepared for the amount it was going to cost nor were we prepared for his passing. We want to do right by Stephen and give him the best funeral he deserves. We are asking if you can help us in any way to help us cover some of the costs of the funeral.
I want to thank everyone who helps us through this time. It really means a lot not only to us but to Stephen as well. Your prayers, support, love and offerings are truly appreciated.
