Sunflower Sisters offer support to Ukrainian families looking to seek refuge in the U.K.
We work with Ukrainian families and hosts in the U.K. to help with the process. Many of these families struggle to get to the U.K. for various reasons. Some are in refugee camps with no funds to get to the U.K. Some have been evacuated and are in temporary accommodation, awaiting for their UK visas to be processed.
We have started to provide transport and this has up to now been privately funded but is not sustainable. We also work with evacuation teams to find accommodation in the UK . However these families need temporary shelter whilst they await visa approval. This needs to be close to the visa application centre in the country they have been evacuated to. We would therefore ask for any help you can give in increasing the amount of transport we can offer and the support in providing temporary housing to these families. We already have a minibus privately funded . We now need funds for petrol, accommodation and ferry crossings

WHO ARE THE SUNFLOWER SISTERS
Sunflower Sisters Ukraine/UK was set up to offer support for families arriving to the UK from Ukraine. Whilst there are many Facebook groups offering support to Ukrainians, We wanted to create a safe space for our Ukrainian ladies and so we are a ladies only group. We commenced with the aim to help with finding accommodation, providing advice and signposting to relevant services, listening to their individual stories and offering the hand of friendship. We appreciate how difficult it must be to arrive in a UK country, added to that the individual stories of what many of these ladies are experiencing. We are women wanting to support our fellow sisters. To date, the group now has over 16k members.
Our voluntary team of ladies has grown hugely since we started. Many of us work full time and have young children but are passionate about helping where we are able to. Since we started on March 7th, we have grown considerably. We now have over 50 volunteers. We have teams or regional coordinators across the UK, working with local groups to help with finding accommodation. We have ladies offering specialist advice in aspects relating to immigration and safeguarding. We have several ladies offering assistance in translating and acting as interpreters on calls between hosts and families. Our team includes Ukrainian ladies who we have helped with securing accommodation, Ukrainian ladies who have previously settled in the UK, Russian ladies who help with translating and signposting families to regional coordinators and UK ladies who work in a whole range of different areas
Unlike many matching systems, we strive to support both the Ukrainian lady and host through the process. This also includes the application of the visa as well as assisting those who need to attend a Visa Application Centre. We also try to ensure ladies and their families are matched in a location that best meets their requirements. More recently, we work with various other individuals and voluntary organisations who are involved with provision of transport and evacuations.
