Sue Walden's Back to Health Campaign

Hello and welcome to Sue's GoFundMe campaign!

We are both thrilled you're here to support Sue's cancer recovery.

It's been a long and intense journey, since the first time we reached out, and we're back with an update on our lovely Sue's progress.

In a nutshell, it has been a lot of ups and downs. Thankfully, it has been mostly ups.

Sue Walden’s Amazing & Painful Journey

Between October and December of last year, Sue dealt with a great deal of pain before the ER discovered the L3 vertebrae in her back was eaten up by cancer and had collapsed.

In January, her doctor prescribed a procedure to use medical cement to rebuild that vertebrae, which (despite the doctor's certainty, and Sue's high hopes) didn’t do anything to ease the pain.

6 More Weeks of Pain

So, back into the ER she went. And after 10 days in the hospital for scans, tests and 10 sessions of radiation therapy, they sent her home. She and her son, Ken, with some part-time help, barely kept it together. And, nothing reduced any of her pain.

Enter the Magic Spine Doctor

So, she went back again, to the ER for yet another MRI.

From that scan, they discovered that a fragment of L3 was pressing against the nerve sheath in the back of the vertebrae, causing more and more pain, with time.

Her options at that point were to stay in bed for the rest of her life, or opt for back surgery. Sue opted for surgery, which was (WAHOO!) successfully completed, on Friday, April 5th, at the brand new Van Ness campus of California Pacific Medical Center.

Sue was under the care of the magical Dr. McCormack who did a fantastic job!

Finally, Some Relief for Sue

The pain, since then, has been hugely reduced. She has now been transferred to a skilled nursing/rehab facility, and she’ll be there for 4 to 6 weeks, rebuilding her until she's able to return home.

Sue's Current Need/Ask

Suffice to say, Sue's journey is not over yet. This is why we're reaching out again, for support. If you are able, we would greatly appreciate any size contribution to the GoFundMe, which would be used to cover:

specialized medicines/ treatments for her back and the cancers

the nursing and physical therapy that she will need once home

medical transportation fees
