Sue Needs a New Chair!

Hello friends, family and colleagues!

As many of you know, my partner Sue uses an electric wheelchair with a motorized leg-lift and tilt-back seat. Sue's wheelchair is dying and she cannot live without one. The wheelchair is needed for work and community engagements, as well as simple personal freedom of movement. Sue works at Algonquin College helping students with their own special educational needs and is very active in the local community. Sue is a long-time representative to the public school board as a voice for students and families with special needs; an organizer of a local music festival (Blue Skies Music Festival); and an engaged activist for a wide spectrum of other causes.

The total cost of a new chair (nearly $30K) would be unreachable were it not for the support of the Government and my private insurance program through Computacenter. Even after their maximum contributions, we are still $7000.00 short of Sue's much-needed new chair.

We have repaired Sue's old chair several times, but after 7000 km it is finally at the end of its life. The batteries and electronics are old enough that they are no longer standard configurations and are becoming dangerous to Sue.

Currently, Sue's chair will die randomly when out and about, leaving her stranded sometimes in risky situations (like the middle of busy intersections). Or on winter nights while on her way home from work. Further, the chair's electronics are failing which causes sudden lunging and violent shaking.

The chair Sue is needing is called the M3 Corpus Permobil.

Please, help me, to help Sue. Let's give Sue the comfort, safety and freedom that she deserves.

Note: if we happen to go beyond the targetted limit, any extra money will be used to purchase any additional maintenance plans, upgrade to the headlight package, or be used to cover any hidden fees. Then some will be set aside for backup tires and batteries (as these tend to fail fast). And finally, after that, we will donate the rest to a cause of Sue's choosing, likely something to do with Accessibility.
