Sudbury Pro-Choice Billboard Campaign

The Sudbury Pro-Choice Coalition has launched billboards with messages of support for everyone who has had, considered having, or will have an abortion. Please donate to or share this campaign to keep spreading these positive messages.
This coalition seeks to challenge the stigma of abortion by publicly supporting people in their choice to end a pregnancy. The Coalition believes abortion rights are attacked as a proxy for attacking all women and gender-diverse people. The idea that women who have and enjoy sex must be punished with pregnancy is fundamentally misogynistic and has served for centuries to keep women dependent on family structures that limit their freedoms and futures.
Restricted access to abortion also keeps women in relationships with abusive or neglectful men, further traumatizes survivors of rape and incest, forces lesbian and bisexual women into the closet, lowers the incomes of Indigenous women and women of colour, and leaves gender-diverse individuals with few or no options for addressing any of their reproductive health concerns. The Sudbury Pro-Choice Coalition hopes to remind the community that abortion is both a fundamental human right and essential healthcare.
The Coalition’s pro-choice position is that nobody should be shamed for the decisions they make about their reproductive health, and Canada does not require laws restricting or otherwise regulating abortion. Abortion, like any other medical procedure, should be regulated by the medical community. Knowledgeable healthcare providers must have the freedom to draft evidence-based policy that provides for their patients’ best interests.
The Sudbury Pro-Choice Coalition is comprised of women, non-binary individuals, and men from all walks of life, with diverse experiences of abortion. We love our bodies and will fight to protect them. But we love our community too, and we want to reach out and open the conversation. Whatever your reason or belief system, if you support our right to choose, we want you to be a part of this dialogue.
Within three hours of launching this page, the group surpassed their initial target by more than 50%, a strong indicator that Sudbury is ready and wants to have this conversation. With the billboards now up, the plan is to create more momentum to keep spreading the positive messages. Many residents of Greater Sudbury have had or will have an abortion, and the Sudbury Pro-Choice Coalition wants them to know they are loved and supported.
