Fundraising Proposal
The Sudanese British Specialist Hospital – Wad Madani, Republic of Sudan
Urgent Appeal: Acquisition of a CT Scanner to Restore Diagnostic Imaging Services
Funding Goal: £200,000 (GBP)
Background
The British Hospital, a historic and essential healthcare facility in Wad Madani, Sudan, was ruthlessly looted and structurally damaged during the recent conflict. What could not be taken was deliberately destroyed, leaving the hospital stripped of its vital medical infrastructure.
Despite these devastating losses, through immense local effort and personal sacrifice, we have reopened the hospital and resumed delivering care. However, the facility remains severely under-equipped, especially in diagnostic imaging — a cornerstone of safe, effective clinical decision-making.
The Regional Crisis
As of mid 2025, Wad Madani has no fully functional hospital. The last operating public hospital, Madani Teaching Hospital, was forced to suspend services in 2024 due to looting, staff harassment, and insecurity. Other public and private hospitals have been rendered non-operational. The region now depends on a handful of partially operating primary care clinics, unable to handle emergency or referral needs.
This means The Sudanese British Specialist Hospital may be one of the only functioning referral-level medical facilities in South East - Central Sudan, about 85 miles (136 km) South-East of Khartoum
Current Need
We urgently require a CT scanner to meet essential diagnostic needs for:
• Emergency trauma (e.g. head injuries, internal bleeding)
• Stroke and neurological care
• Cancer staging and detection
• Pre-surgical planning
