The Quarry Proposal - Havering Planning Ref 'P1251.24'
We believe the proposal by Brett Aggregates to build a sand and gravel quarry between Rainham, Hornchurch and Upminster poses a real risk to the Havering community and beyond through a loss of amenity, health and wellbeing, damage to green space, ecology and wildlife.
Our hope is to prevent this quarry and to ensure that the planning process is balanced, fair and diligent so that the Havering community and environment is protected. Your support will help us do that.
The proposed site is perilously close — just a few hundred metres — to the new St George's Park residential estate, Health & Wellbeing Hub, and Country Park, as well as in close proximity to numerous other homes, businesses and environmental sites such as Ingrebourne Marshes SSSI.
We want this proposal to be rejected because we don’t think this particular location is appropriate for a sand and gravel quarry for a number of reasons:
- Significant long-term air quality risks from silicas, dust, particulates and HGV emissions
- Increased traffic and road safety risks from HGVs (predicted to be 114 two-way HGV movements per day)
- Loss of amenity and character of the local area, including green open space such as Hornchurch Country Park
- Possible harm to protected wildlife, biodiversity and local ecological networks including Ingrebourne Marshes SSSI
- Noise pollution from machinery and constant HGV movement
- Potential changes to drainage, groundwater and increased flood risk
- Possible negative effects on mental wellbeing and quality of life
- Significant risk on property values due to sheer proximity
Your donation will help fund the legal resources we need to ensure our voices are heard. Every contribution makes a difference.
We want our Havering community to be protected, for our amenity, health and environment to remain at the forefront of the planning process, and for our voices to be heard.
Thank you for standing with us.
