Stop the Franklin Ave 7-11!

7-Eleven has proposed invading our residential neighborhood with their corporate chain by building a new location at 6201 Franklin Ave. This development is strongly opposed by the community & has been fought every step of the way.
The Hollywood United Neighborhood Council voted unanimously to oppose the project. Over 2000 area residents signed a petition against it. Nearly a thousand letters of opposition were submitted to L.A. City Planning from residents as well as from surrounding businesses & virtually every civic association, homeowners association, & community organization in the area including: Argyle Civic Association, Beachwood Canyon Homeowners Association, & The Oaks Homeowners Association.
At the City Planning hearing, which happened on May 18th 2021, the Zoning Administrator heard almost two hours of community testimony opposing the applied for Conditional Use Permit for 24 hours of operations & CEQA exemptions. While the permit for 24 hours was denied by the city, 7-Eleven was granted extended hours of 6am-2am daily as well as all their applied for environmental quality exemptions–even those for which they explicitly do not qualify. City Planning also failed to require 7-Eleven to perform a traffic study despite the fact that the subject property is within a freeway-adjacent zone & at an intersection that was previously deemed dangerous by LADOT. The community has thus decided to fight this egregious decision by appealing it whole cloth.
This GoFundMe will support our community group, No Franklin 7-11, in the hiring of an attorney to appeal the Zoning Administrator's decision. The starting fee to retain our counsel & begin the appeal process, including getting expert opposition to the CEQA guideline exemption, is $5000. After that point we expect to incur additional legal fees in obtaining expert documentation to demand that a traffic impact report be performed prior to any continuation of the project. Any funds donated will go directly to funding our legal action against this vehemently opposed project.
