Stop Iron Gates Development - Evans Head

Evans Head is a quiet coastal town 45 mins south of Byron Bay on the NSW far North Coast. Home to some of the oldest inhabitants of the land the koala, kangaroo, & other furry, spiky & wispy friends. Like a lot of coastal towns on Australia's east coast, our community, our environment, our cultural history and our native animals are under immediate threat of developers. This development was approved to go ahead during the 90's, but the Land & Environment court cancelled the developer's approval because they removed protected native vegetation.
In 2016, a new master plan was submitted by the same landowner, under a different company name, and fast forward to today, the DA is before the local council and we have less than 45 days to stop the development from going ahead. We are concerned about the lack of respect for the Land & Environment Court decision in the '90s, lack of consequence for unauthorised land clearing at the time, and environmental impact on the area if the development progresses. Should a developer who was caught clearing native vegetation, then be rewarded with approval to subdivide the land he once cleared and remove more native habitat 25 years later under a different company name? Seems unfair to me.
Not to mention, in the Development Application Flora & Fauna assessment, six species were identified as Vulnerable under the Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 or the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
We need to enlist the support of an expert Land & Environment lawyer to help protect the homes of our native plants and animals that call Iron Gates home and protect our community against overpopulation. Equally, we need to stand up for the decisions that have already been made in Australia's court system and stop big business from re-wrapping an old proposal, impacting on the integrity of past decisions that have been made to protect the environment.
Every dollar raised will 100% support the fight to stop the Iron Gates development, any funds left over will be donated to local environmental & community charities. We'll report on how the money is being spent with regular updates.
