Stockings For Heroes

Show your appreciation to our troops by donating to send stockings with “Hero” written upon them to soldiers stationed overseas during the holidays.  

About 25 years ago, my brother in law  (now a Command Sergeant Major in the US Army Special Forces)   was deployed in Iraq over Christmas.  I sent him a care package with about a dozen stockings filled with treats and he shared that the soldiers loved the spreading of cheer so much they hung them on their doors.

 Over the years I continued to send the packages but enlisting support from others.  Last year, with the help of my children’s school and the community, we were able to send over 500 stockings to our troops in Afghanistan.  However, the shipping charges alone were over $1000 and only through the last minute kindness of family, friends and strangers were we able to send the packages to our Heroes.

This year our goal is 750 stockings.  While I am physically accepting candy and stocking donations, any money raised through this go fund me campaign will be used to buy additional stockings and candy to fill those stockings, and to cover the shipping costs.

I know it’s early to start thinking of Christmas, but it’s never too early to think of thanking our Troops who are sacrificing their holiday for us.  I’m also hoping that by setting up this page now, it will enable more people to donate before Christmas spending splurges are upon us.
