Markie's Fund for Life

Donation protected
On the Sunday 7th December 2014 Markie age 7 was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.  He was rushed by emergency ambulance with me, his mum, from Norwich to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).  He had a very unusual and aggressive presentation of the disease.  We were told it would be touch and go if he made it through the next 72 hours.  Up until then Markie had been a healthy little boy, happily living with me, his dad David and two older brothers Toby and Ollie.

Two days later his brothers came down to say goodbye and by lunchtime Markie was in a medically induced coma on life support.  At that time  we were told that he was the sickest boy in the intensive care unit at GOSH.

Amazingly Markie pulled through and was taken off life support a few days later.  On the following Sunday, a week after admission he was transferred to the Oncology ward.  He spent 3 straight months in hospital and subsequently was admitted around a 10 further times in 2015 for various infections and investigations.

Although his recovery to date has been remarkable it became clear in the first week in hospital that Markie couldn't see.  He had gone blind.

Several operations later, Markie has sight (albeit impaired vision) in his right eye.  He sadly lost total sight in his left eye, which was sacrificed to achieve some vision in his right eye.  We don't know how long this will remain.  His left eye will probably be replaced with a prosthetic eye within the near future.

He has had radiotherapy to his brain and undergone more than 40 general anaesthetics, but Markie continues to fight like a true warrior.

I have set up this campaign to raise money for further operations for Markie's eye and to create a fund for him to help him live as normal and easier life as possible as he gets older.  He still has two years left of chemotherapy and who knows how many eye operations.  Life will be much more of a challenge for him than his friends and brothers and hopefully this fund will help with things he will need.

Rest assured that 100% of any money donated will be used exclusively for the long term welfare of Markie .

Thank you for your donations. xx
