Steven E. Placencia is a loving, 33 year old dad who has been an amazing father, despite lacking any real example as he grew up. He succeeded in raising his three kids largely on his own, and we (his family) are so proud of him for how great of a father he has become. Corbin is 12, Ciara is 11, and sweet little Mattix is just 6 years old. Steven has always provided for his family as an I.T. consultant in the state of California. 
 
 Recently, Steve suddenly fell ill and was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive type of spinal cancer. Just In the past few weeks, Steven has lost the use of his hands, very quickly followed by his legs. As the growth in his upper spinal canal puts ever increasing pressure on his spinal cord, he has become progressively paralyzed, and has recently lost his ability to breathe on his own.  Steven was placed on a ventilator March 31st and the current prognosis from the Doctors at Kaiser in L.A. Is not good. They give him a very short time to live due to the advanced stage and location of the mass within his spine.

In preperations for his departure from his physical self, Steve has picked out a biodegradable urn that has a pine tree seed within it. Steve's brother James Hornik will carry this urn with Stevens remains on one last hike into the mountains near one of Steve's favorite hiking trails. As nature returns to nature, a new life will grow into a beautiful pine tree to stand watch over the landscape for many years to come.
