Steve Wakeman's Stroke Recovery

Spende geschützt
Anyone that knows me knows I'm a Daddy's Girl. For my whole life there has only been one man who has made me feel like the center of his world, and in turn, he has been the center of mine...

That is why it came as a great upset when this man, my father, had a debilitating stroke in July. This stroke had left his speech impaired and his right side immobilized. While he has been making HUGE progress in rehabilitation, he still needs some help upon his release.

Though it has been a struggle from me trying to take care of my dad's needs in the state of Washington while he rehabs in his home of Arizona, we have persisted to make strides in getting things to work in his favor. His speech is improving and his mobility becomes better each day. Yet my father, the man who is happiest watching a sunset over a vast desert in Arizona, is still not able to go home and enjoy the sense of peace of living on his own just yet (though he is getting pretty good at flirting with his rehabilitation nurses!) In fact, he now requires a living situation where he will be taken care of in a facility by 24 hour professional staff.  We are both that Wakeman kind of stubborn, so though it is hard for my dad to accept that he needs such help for just a little while longer, he is ready to meet the challenge of a full recovery if we can manage this financially.

Having lived alone most of his life, my dad really does not have the finances to pay for assisted living in addition to the medication and wheelchair he now needs. As we are all aware, Medicare and health care coverage can only do so much. The donation you make will go towards:

-2 months of assisted care in a specialized nursing facility (about 2,500-5,000K a month)
-Wheelchair and walker distribution and access
-continued medication while he is at the nursing facility

My dad will be discharged from his rehabilitiation facility this Thursday, August 3. At that point, he is not able to take care of himself and go back to his solitary living so it is imperative that we find a way to get the funds we need to provide him with a smooth transition into a temporary nursing facility. While he will not need to be there long, it is the best option for him now to get a speedy, full recovery.

Any help at all that we receive is appreciated beyond words. With this help, I can ensure that my dad is back to his nomadic self again...watching those Arizona sunsets from his desert backyard...
