Help mijn broer de vader te zijn die hij zo ontzettend graag wil zijn.
Mijn broer Richard heeft een steuntje in de rug nodig. Zijn kinderen, mijn lieve neefje en nichtje, zijn begin vorig jaar meegenomen door hun moeder naar Engeland vanuit Ivoorkust, waar zij toen woonden. Mijn broer wist hier niets vanaf en kwam plots thuis in een leeg huis. Normaal gesproken mag dit absoluut niet, maar omdat Ivoorkust nooit het Haags Kinderontvoeringsverdrag heeft ondertekend, werd mijn broer gedwongen in Engeland twee peperdure rechtszaken te voeren om de relatie met zijn kinderen te beschermen.
Helaas was dat, ondanks dat dit een duidelijke zaak was waarbij hij niets heeft misdaan, niet succesvol en blijven zijn kinderen in Engeland wonen. Hij moet het nu doen met een bezoekregeling, waarbij hij zijn kinderen zo'n twee maanden per jaar ziet. Mijn broer wilde geen vakantievader worden, maar tot zijn groot verdriet is dat de enige rol die hem nu is gegund. Het is een enorme tegenslag voor hem, maar hij is vastbesloten er het beste van te maken.
Niet alleen de emotionele impact die dit op hem had en heeft is immens groot, maar ook financieel gezien heeft hij het zwaar. Door torenhoge kosten van de juridische procedures in Engeland moet mijn broer nu flinke schulden aflossen. Door middel van deze reportage wil hij een positieve bijdrage leveren aan een debat dat nu in de Tweede Kamer wordt gevoerd over financiële ondersteuning voor ouders die zich in dezelfde situatie begeven als hij. Dat mogelijke fonds gaat hem echter niet meer helpen.
Uit het diepst van mijn hart zou ik zo graag willen dat mijn broer zijn schulden af kan betalen, zodat hij weer positieve plannen kan maken voor de toekomst en hij de beste vader kan zijn die hij wil zijn. Daarom vraag ik of je mijn broer financieel wil steunen. Alle kleine beetjes helpen.

My brother Richard needs a helping hand. His children, my dear nephew and niece, were taken by their mother to England from Ivory Coast at the beginning of last year, where they lived at the time. My brother was not informed about this and came home to an empty house. Normally this is absolutely not allowed, but since Ivory Coast never signed the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction, my brother was forced to have two very expensive legal proceedings in England to protect the relationship with his children.
Unfortunately, despite the fact that this was a clear case in which he did nothing wrong, it was not successful and his children continue to live in England. He now has to grapple with a visitation arrangement, where he sees his children for about two months a year. My brother did not want to become a holiday father, but to his great sorrow that is the only role that he has now been given. It is a huge setback for him, but he is determined to make the best of it.
Not only the emotional impact that this had and has on him is immense, but also financially he has a hard time. Due to skyrocketing costs of legal proceedings in England, my brother now has to pay large debts. From the bottom of my heart, I want my brother to be able to pay off his debts so that he can make positive plans for the future again and be the best father that he wants to be. That's why I am asking for a financial contribution to my brother's situation. Every contribution helps.
