Steph, Jonas & Jasper's Peaceful Recovery Support

Spende geschützt
Stephanie, her partner Jonas, and their young baby Jasper were in a car accident on June 1st, 2024. This accident was completely at the fault of the other driver who was overtaking (passing) and hit Steph and her family head on. They were in southern Germany at the time of the accident visiting Jonas’s family. Sadly Steph received the most severe injuries which caused the family to be in separated in different hospitals for 3 weeks. For 11 days Steph and her baby Jasper (who was still breast feeding at the time of the accident) were completely separated while Steph underwent a series of life saving treatments.

Updates on Steph:
Steph was in the ICU for 10 days after the accident where she underwent two operations for internal bleeding, she also suffered a broken vertebrae, broken ribs and a torn rectus sheath. She sustained trauma to her neck which has caused multiple minor strokes and the damage from these has affected her sight and the strength in her right hand. She was then moved to a brain injury ward where she remained for another 9 days to receive anticoagulants to prevent further strokes. Steph’s doctors and hospital support team have now advised her and her family that she will need rehabilitation in a separate hospital in order to get her sight and her arm back in perfect condition. They will also work on her mobility and strength in her abdomen and back so that she can return to life and Motherhood. She will also need follow up care in 3 months to ensure the neck trauma is improving and get the metal parts removed from her spine. Until her neck and brain have fully healed she will need medication to prevent further damage.

Updates on Jonas & Jasper:
Jonas and Jasper were in a separate hospital for two weeks. Jonas suffered two broken feet and required reconstructive surgery to one foot. He also broke one arm. He was caring for Jasper the entire time he was in hospital with the endless support of Jonas’ Family. Jasper endured a broken arm but more significantly, huge emotional trauma from being separated so abruptly from his Mum and losing the breast milk he so needed. Sadly Jasper had to go through an instant weaning process due to the separation from his Mum. Steph and Jasper are unable to re-initiate breastfeeding due to the medications she is now on. Jasper also came down with the flu during this time. All of these traumas have lead him to become a completely different baby; he is now is a very subdued little boy. Jonas and Jasper are now both out of hospital but having to pay for accommodation to be close to Steph. As you can imagine how painful this was for their family to be ripped apart, and for Steph to be alone without her baby. The family now needs to prioritize closeness, reconnection, and healing as a family unit. As you can imagine the accommodation, and life expenses will add up as Steph embarks on her rehabilitation journey especially because Steph’s Family has to travel from England to visit them.

Steph and Jonas are unable to work during this healing journey, they are both self-employed. They are needing to stay in Germany for at least the first scan of Steph’s neck and will have to pay for this out of pocket. Their family is supporting them dearly but if you are looking for a way to support them from a far, they are appreciating your help to focusing on rebuilding their life and their family.

Luckily they will receive health insurance which will cover most of the medical costs, however as we all know that these companies will do anything to not pay for certain parts of the care and they will not fund Steph’s rehabilitation at all. Nor will there be any help towards day to day costs of being stuck in Germany.

Steph and Jonas’s personal message:
Our families are supporting us where ever we can but as we are both unable to work for the near distant future we have been humbled and grateful for a friend to help us set this up. Our family was torn apart and all of us are experiencing so much physical and mental trauma. We are broken hearted that we are still separated but we know we will heal and become even stronger. All we want to do is focus on rebuilding our loving family without the stress of finances getting in the way. It would help Steph get through rehab and give us breathing room for a few months before we can return back to work. If you are looking for a way to support us from a far, we are deeply thankful for your support.

If we get a refund of our expenses through the lawsuit against the third party who caused this accident (this might take 6-12 months) we will donate the full amount raised to a charity that takes care of car accident victims like us.

Steph, Jonas, and Jasper.
