St. Croix River Communities is raising funds to support the effort to regulate Frac Sand Mining at the Rybak Mine in Farmington near Osceola, WI. 

In January 2019, the Town Board of Farmington permitted the Rybak Mine to extend their dig four times deeper and begin mining Frac Sand. This threatens the clean air and water of our community, releasing harmful Silica Dust into the air and potentially exposing the St. Croix watershed to heavy metals and volatile compounds, threatening nearby wells and the river. 

The community will use funds to test air and water to detect any harmful effects of the mining process and to hire experts to guide negotiations with the Town Board and Miners to reach an agreement regulating the mine to protect our land, water, and neighbors.
