The Lucas Project was a dream that began 13 years ago with the birth of my son Lucas Aaron. Lucas was miraculously born after a terminal prognosis in utero. He was believed to have suffered a stroke in utero causing extreme hydrocephalus. After surviving brain surgery at 3 days old, he has continued to thrive and surpass every prediction made against his life: walking, talking, and living his life to the fullest.
My desire was to start a non-profit some day in his honor but until recently, I lacked direction and focus for what that would entail. In 2013 we moved our family to rural Tennessee to pursue a dream of a simple, and while Lucas has thrived in this environment in many aspects, we have noticed a lack of resources and accessibility in many other areas particularly in the area of caretaking and respite care provided for families. The Lucas Project was born out of a desire to bridge the gap in these rural communities by offering resources to families, communities, and businesses at large.
