Hello, my name is Ocean, also known as Dreammxy in the internet space. First of all, I would like to say that I am very grateful to all who are here reading this now and taking the time to really understand why I'm creating this fundraiser for my loving father and family.
This September 2nd was the start of an unfortunate set of events that would take place for my father and my family. As my father headed to work that morning, little did he realize that he would be unable to go on and perform his work duties, as he was stricken with severe flank and kidney pain, as well as extreme nausea and vomiting, which caused him to return home.
My father, not wanting to burden his co-workers with what was going on, as they were asking him if he was alright and offering to drive him home, found the strength, despite the pain and vomiting, to somehow make it back home on his own. As soon as he arrived, my mother could tell that there was something very wrong. They headed straight to the emergency room, and after what seemed like 24 hours, which turned out to be 12 hours of waiting and hurting while sitting in a wheelchair in the waiting room, he was finally brought back to be examined further.
After several CT scans and blood samples, the conclusion was that his kidney function was deteriorating due to two large kidney stones lodged in his ureters that led to the bladder. Being a Type 1 diabetic, his medical condition was listed as severe chronic kidney disease. The hospital he was at couldn't perform the surgery that was needed by the urologist, so he had to be transferred by ambulance to another hospital.
As nerve-wracking and scary as that must have been for my father, he could only think about how he was going to get back to work and support his family even after this severe medical diagnosis. It is something to be said about his character and how much he cares and loves his family.
That night, he had to undergo surgery on the right kidney. The following day, he had to undergo a second surgery on the left kidney, where they had to place a nephrostomy tube in order to drain the urine that was trapped. With any surgical procedure, there is always the possibility of an infection, especially the major one: sepsis.
My father stayed in the hospital for a week and was then discharged, only to return 5 days later to be readmitted due to a severe infection. The infection was so bad that they had to give him very strong antibiotics. Unfortunately, he had a rare and horrible reaction to the antibiotics, which have now caused him to have nerve damage and burning sensations in both of his quadriceps, which is unbearable without pain medication.
My father is such a good man. He loves and cares for us deeply and can't understand why this is happening, but through all this, he still keeps the faith.
As horrible as all these medical problems are, what is more worrisome and extremely terrible is that his employer is saying that he no longer has benefits. How can a company that gave an employee benefits from the start now say you were never a full-time employee to begin with and that you are not to have these benefits, like sick pay, even though you were an employee working full-time hours and had those benefits before this happened? It is beyond baffling.
They even gave him an ultimatum and a date of when he had to return to work or else, which I am sure is against federal law. So now, not only is he worried about being let go from work, which means no income to support his family, he is having to also worry about yet a third surgery that has to take place this week after yet another trip back to the ER for yet another infection.
These are situations that I have been worried about for my father and my family, and I have shared this with my community. And even though my mother, myself, and my sister contribute and work, it just doesn't account for my father's missing income. I do this fundraiser for my dad and family whom I love and care for deeply. I am his loving daughter, and I will do all I can to try and help him.
I am sharing his story with all of you so that way he knows that there are good people out there who care and will show support in sorrowful times of trouble and need. This fundraiser is to help with his unfortunate loss of income and costly current medical expenses.
