Help Support Our Beloved Kathryn Bugg in Her Healing Journey

Our dear friend, sister, and beloved Kathryn (Kathy) Bugg has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow. This news has been overwhelming for her, her devoted husband Kevin, and their cherished daughter Lauren, as Kathryn has been living with significant pain, fatigue, and brain fog since April.

On Thursday, September 4th, Kathryn received the official diagnosis from Dr. Susan Bukata, Orthopaedic Oncologist at UCSD. She is now being referred to the UCSD Hematology Team and their specialized Myeloma Team for a treatment plan tailored to her.

About Kathryn’s Diagnosis

MRIs revealed lesions in her ribs, spine, pelvis/hip, and sternum — the exact areas where she has been experiencing pain.

Fortunately, there is little to no structural bone damage at this time.

Treatment will likely include bone-strengthening medication and targeted therapies to reduce tumors, with possible use of steroids or radiation in the future.

Surgery is not expected, and chemotherapy has not yet been mentioned.

While Multiple Myeloma is serious, Kathryn’s prognosis is hopeful, and with proper treatment, her quality of life can be maintained.

Why We’re Asking for Help

In addition to her medical treatment through UCSD, Kathryn is also seeking supportive, integrative therapies to help her body heal, restore strength, and improve quality of life during this difficult journey. She hopes to undergo care at Biodynamics Wellness in Solana Beach, California, where therapies focus on supporting the immune system, reducing inflammation, and improving overall wellness alongside conventional medical treatment.

Unfortunately, these services are not covered by insurance, and the out-of-pocket costs will be significant. Between medical appointments, specialized treatments, travel, and time away from work, Kathryn and Kevin are facing an overwhelming financial burden at the very moment when they need to focus entirely on her healing.
