St Albans Support for Sebbie

Donation protected
This is Sebastian.

Sebbie is 2 years old and is currently being treated for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) in GOSH for the second time in his little life.

He is a football mad little boy who up until his admission to hospital last month would always be seen kicking his football, an apple or anything round in the playground whilst picking up his brother and sister from school. He is now in isolation to protect him from infection, however his amazingly strong mummy regularly takes him for evening trips to the hospital corridors when they are empty so Sebbie can kick his beloved ball.

At just 9 months old Sebbie started treatment for AML  Leukaemia on 1st April 2016. After a gruelling 7 months of intensive chemotherapy and treament in Great Ormond Street everyone was delighted that there was no residual disease and Sebbie enjoyed 9 months at home with his mum, dad, 7 year old brother and 5 year old sister. On 6th September 2017,  the day after moving house, Sebbie was urgently rushed back into Great Ormond Street in a 5.30am taxi ride with his mum and a hastily packed suitcase because the cancer was back. They left his 7 and 5 year old brother and sister at home in bed sleeping that morning. They won't leave hospital again for at least 9 months.

Sebbie will now undergo another 2 rounds of chemotherapy including use of a drug released to him on compassionate grounds from the drug company because it's not currently licenced in the Uk outside of a clinical trial that doesn't even include relapse patients. Then he will be isloated in a transplant ward where he will undergo a round of even more aggressive chemotherapy followed by a Bone Marrow Transplant with his 5 year old sister hopefully being the donor. Sebbie and his mum will be in GOSH for at least 9 months battling infections and fighting for Sebbie's life over Christmas, and birthdays and school holidays. Sebbie's dad will be an hour and half away working full time and looking after 2 small children and making trips up and down to the hospital with them throughout and for the 2nd year running. Everyone is just devastated that such a gorgeous boy is going through all this again and heartboken for his brother and sister who are having to deal with it all at such a young age. Sebbie is a fighter and we need to get him and his family through this transplant so that the family can be back together for good.
