St. Paul Clinic Kalembe Chamama Malawi

I am Fr Kelvin Ugwu, MSP, a missionary priest working in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Working in malawi has been challenging, worse still in Chamama, a rural part of the country where many can hardly feed. People die of treatable diseases. As a priest working with the people, it is not a good experience when you are called to anoint a sick person who is already dying of a sickness that can be treated. And because they cannot access any nearby hospital, families literally wait for their sick to die. It is one of the most heart-breaking experiences I have ever had as a missionary.

Many times, I have had to take a lot of them to the central hospital in Lilongwe, a journey of almost 200 kilometers and on a bad road. It takes nothing less than 4 hours to get there. Yet the hospital is often overcrowded, and the chance of seeing a doctor is slim. At one occasion, a 2-year-old child died on my hands, of Malaria. I don't know if I can ever forget that experience.

This was the beginning of my desire to get a clinic. It is something I, sincerely, from my heart, wish for the people here. There will be more than 10,000 persons who will benefit from this. I have so many parishioners and they really pray and hope that this will work out.

As you would have seen, this is very urgent and whatever support we get will be deeply appreciated. It will save lives and will go a very long way.

Any information that you may need, I will gladly provide. Thank you so much and may God bless you!
