Management of Pediatric Dysphagia and Cleft-Palate
The purpose of this trip is to gain valuable hands-on experience through this service initiative in Antigua, Guatemala!
The amazing opportunity is designed for graduate students in the Speech-Language Pathology major, this program offers practical firsthand experience in working with swallowing disorders in infants and young children, as well as with the assessment, treatment, management and models of delivery, comparing US health practice with a developing country such as Guatemala. I will study the anatomy and neurophysiology of normal swallowing for children with cleft-palate as well as pathophysiology in infants and children while performing volunteer work at a local orphanage & hospital in Antigua, the former colonial capital of Guatemala.
