Helping Orphans in Sri Lanka

I'm a Doctor in training in Ireland and since I live alone here, I plan to spend Christmas and New Year giving back to those less fortunate during the Christmas period.
I'm planning a trip to Sri Lanka to visit a few orphanages and want to put a smile on children's face during this festive season. In this fast-moving world we often forget about the less fortunate, so why not help me put a smile on their face. A small gesture can go a long way.
I don't plan to buy them school supplies and educational materials which everyone does and the organization is loaded with it. There is nothing more important than education for these kids, to enable them to stand on their own two feet once they reach the age of 18 when they are forced to leave the orphanage. What we do today could be a stepping stone later on in life for them and generations to come.
Investing in education is much better than buying toys or taking them out on a day trip. Hence the move to make sure these kids get what they need from us. My dad always told me "Don't give them a fish, teach them how to fish instead!"
I've booked my flights to Sri Lanka out of my own pocket. The funds collected would be used to employ a tutor to help kids in after school with their homework and also help them improve their grades. It means a lot more than buying a meal or buying supplies for them. This is not a short-term plan, the money goes a long way in these kids lives.

*For those in Sligo I'm also collecting unwanted summer clothing for children aged 4-18, I have 40kg baggage allowance so please get in touch if you would like to pass some articles of clothing.
