The current state of the world has been extremely difficult. With COVID-19 changing the world entirely, from shifting how we work, to various deaths, people losing their jobs and homes. COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted our Black communities the most. On top of that, we are also facing is systemic racism and discrimination. In just a couple of weeks, we lost George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Sean Reed at the hands of police. These are just three individuals but there are countless numbers of others who have lost their lives because of police brutality.
Black Lives Matter has been a powerful movement for some time now but it has been even more impactful during these recent weeks. Our community has come together to ignite change. Whether it's through raising awareness, donating, protesting, or other forms of support, we all have one long term mission – that is to fight against racism and injustice for Black people. While the fight is essential it is also important to practice self-care. It’s necessary to make sure we are taking care of our mental health during times like this.
GoFundMe Purpose:
We want to create a safe space for healing while supporting Black Lives Matter. We have organized a free event for everyone to attend to create signs for the BLM protest. We will be providing paint, brushes, posters, stencils, and water. This event will take place on June 20th at Riverbank Park NY, NY. More information can be found in the link below.
We are accepting donations to purchase these supplies. The rest of the donations will be donated to Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation and we will be matching the donated amount.
We are also open to collaborating with others that wish to support our event by providing food, photography, additional supplies, and more.
