Special Needs Unit, Ahotokurom
Hi everyone,
As some of you may already know, we are moving to Ghana at the end of August to volunteer in the Padre Pio rehabilitation centre. The Special Needs Unit there supports children and young adults who are physically or intellectually challenged. Disabilities include cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism, other severe mental challenges and brain damage due to cerebral malaria and many other undiagnosed challenges.
The centre has had a very hard time of it recently due to COVID-19 so in order to raise some well needed funds for the centre, we are going to walk, run and crawl (most likely) 100km over the course of one week in August, 16th-22nd, finishing up with hiking the Coumshingaun loop on the 22nd of August just before we head off!
We know times are tough for everyone at the moment but every little bit is so greatly appreciated by us and the staff in the centre.
Thank you so much and wish us luck!
Love,
Laura, Niamh and Sadhbh
