Sparrow needs our help!

Dear: Community

We are reaching out to raise some funds for Sparrow who is such a dear and sweet little man.

Sparrow is turning two this October 17th and is a very happy and loving child, full of smiles and laughter, he has captured our hearts. For some time he has been slow to speak and a few other noticeable characteristics that have had us concerned.

The consensus among a few close to him is that Sparrow is showing signs of being on the autism spectrum. His Pediatrician has referred us for an assessment to get a diagnosis. A diagnosis requires that a developmental pediatrician, a specialized psychologist, and a speech and language pathologist each assess Sparrow and agree on the diagnosis.

The government waitlist is over a year to get a diagnosis, up to 58 weeks! But early intervention is key to ensuring the best possible chance for independence, strong language development, and modification or even possibly the alleviation of symptoms.

It is imperative to have an official diagnosis as soon as possible to ensure we have access to funding and programs which offer intensive interventions and treatment.

We have found a private route with a psychologist and team in Vancouver who had a cancellation in late October. But this is hugely expensive! It will take at least 2 trips to Vancouver and the assessments cost $4000. MSP is wonderful in covering ferries but we have to cover a large portion of the trips.

So we are asking that whatever little or large amount you may be able to give, we hope that you can help us in this time to give Spug the best possible chance and start at life!

From Rose : I am working as hard as I can with my boy myself, but I’m not a professional and I can’t let valuable developmental windows pass by as he goes untreated, if indeed he is on the spectrum. Like everyone I will move mountains for my boy. Now I humbly ask my community to help me with my mountain. I’m not thrilled to have to ask and know that many people are struggling with so many things, but I must try and do everything possible for Sparrow. He is such a unique person I’ve found myself really deeply appreciating his incredible focus and approach to our world and seeing his differences as magical and fascinating, but it’s very important he has language and as full of a life as can be.”

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and cannot tell you how much every cent counts and helps us to reach our goal of giving Sparrow every chance we can.

Love and gratitude
