Sound wall for Brick communities by Parkway in NJ

Children and families are suffering from sleep deprivation in the Evergreen Woods Condo complex and other affected areas in Brick, NJ along the Garden State Parkway. The extreme noise level from a Garden State Parkway widening project, right next to our communities, is the culprit. This project created an 8 lane highway completely wiping out a natural buffer. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) used very narrow criteria, an access road, to determine that Cherrywood Farms, on the northbound side, got their wall. But they also used this to disqualify all the other communities. We feel that we’re being economically discriminated against because they were the wealthier community in comparison to the rest of us.

The average acceptable decibel (units to measure sound) level is 65, but our noise level is normally 70 through 82 decibels. The human ear doesn’t hear averages and anything over 70 decibels over time causes hearing loss. The excessive sound causes our homes to shake, passing through windows and walls, and disrupting normal sleep patterns. We have noise around the clock. That means that even at 3 am you can hear and feel tire vibrations and other vehicle sounds while you try to sleep.

Since 2010, we have gone through all the normal channels to get the situation remediated but have been turned down each time. So, we are starting this page to fund a wall, because no one cares about the fact that our children and our families are still being hurt. We hope this finds sympathetic hearts to help end our plight. Please give whatever you can to end this injustice. You may also do so anonymously if you choose.
