SOS Yawanawá: United in Rebuilding the Flooded Villages

“We are living through one of the greatest floods our people have ever known.” — Cacique Nixiwaka Biraci Yawanawá.

The Yawanawá people of Acre, Brazil, are currently facing one of the most severe floods ever recorded on the Gregório River.

What should have been the dry season has instead turned into an unseasonal deluge, impacting all 18 villages. The consequences were immediate and profound—and the community cannot recover alone.

What Has Been Lost

Food Security: Most crops have been destroyed, including essential staples like cassava, corn, and bananas.

Livestock: Chickens, ducks, and pigs were swept away by the rising waters.

Infrastructure: Homes have been damaged and solar energy systems lost.

Transportation: Boats and motors—vital for emergency travel and daily movement—have been destroyed.

Clean Water: Drinking sources have been contaminated by floodwaters and mud.

The very foundation of many families' livelihoods has been compromised.

Our Goal

This campaign was established to support the immediate reconstruction of the villages and to ensure basic necessities are met for every affected family.

Transparency

This is a joint initiative between MS Lumiar, Conexão Ancestral, and the Yawanawá leadership. All funds raised will go directly toward the priorities defined by the community themselves.
