Sophia’s Washington Journalism Conference

For those that don’t know me, my name is Sophia Labbe. I’m a junior at Cony High School and I have been selected to attend the Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. I’m very excited to attend this conference as this will be a great jump-start to my career in journalism.

In these past few years, I have grown up watching a divide build between the left and right, whether it be on mainstream media or on the internet. After staying up reading what seems like countless news articles, watching hours of documentaries, and talking to my peers about the news and distorted messaging, I decided that a career in journalism is the way that I can play a part in ensuring that the facts are reported and seen.

Any funds raised will help alleviate the cost of attending this amazing opportunity and help me in the development of my career. Any excess funds raised will be donated to the Harold Alfond Cancer Center in Augusta, Maine.
