Hi everyone, this post is for my friend's puppy who needs help. Here is the detailed info she wrote:
My angel pup Sokka has been limping on and off since around March. We tried everything including multiple vet visits, rest, medication, and limiting his activity. It’s been a tough few months. He’s just a puppy, full of energy, super social, and absolutely adores people and other dogs. But we’ve had to spend most of our time indoors, only going out for short walks and potty breaks.
Last week, we finally got X-rays, and the results showed he has arthritis caused by elbow dysplasia- a random, congenital condition.
While it’s not life-threatening, if left untreated, his quality of life will decline. The arthritis will likely get worse over time and cause chronic pain and discomfort.
We were referred to an orthopedic surgeon who’s recommending a CT scan to confirm the type of elbow dysplasia they suspect, followed by a bilateral arthroscopy (surgery on both elbows). There will be long-term care involved, but right now I’m focused on getting him through the CT and surgery.
The surgeon said this gives Sokka the best shot at living a normal, pain-free life.
Unfortunately, the quote I received was over $10,000. I’m currently looking into other surgeons and applying for grants or financial assistance.
When I adopted him, I didn’t get pet insurance, I figured he was young and healthy, so I wouldn’t need it. I do have CareCredit and already increased my limit once, but it’s nearly maxed out and I likely won’t qualify for more.
Sokka is my little buddy and best pal. He’s gotten me through a really difficult time these past few months, and I just want him to have the happy, active life he deserves. He’s a precious baby angel and my BFF.
