Sockathon 2021

Hello, my dear friends. Well, it is that time of the year when I reach out to you to ask for your help in helping the less fortunate. I am of course talking about my initiative Sockathon that celebrates its 7th year in 2021

 

What a run it has been so far and we are just unravelling. 2020 pandemic has not stopped us. As a matter of fact, we have collected and acquired a record 1,106 pairs of new socks!!!! That’s a lot of warm feet!

 

Of course, we had to be creative in 2020 since there was not much interaction in person. We created a “Go Fund Me” page. All the money collected was used to purchase new socks and I personally covered any fees.

 

It worked really well and so we will continue the same way in 2021. In addition to that, I will also be using part of the proceeds of the sale of my book “Happiness By You”  to help this dear to me cause nd hopefully help those who purchase the book to find more joy in their lives. 

 

So how did this all start? One cold winter day, I was taking my daily forest walk. I have phenomenal gear for outside activities but have noticed that my feet were cold. How? Why? And then a thought crossed my mind - if with all the super-duper gear my feet are cold, how do the less fortunate people deal with cold winter days? They must suffer terribly! What can I do to help in some way? Hmmm……. How about collecting and donating warm socks? And so 2015 was the birth year of Sockathon.

 

In 2021, Sockathon will continue to support the Kanata Food Cupboard and Chrysalis House in Kanata. We will continue to work with a few homeless shelter programs, the names will be announced at a later date, and an organization that supports aboriginal women.

 

Socks are the most requested and least donated items. So I count on your continuing support, every dollar counts!
