Social Service in Maharlika

Ananda Seva supports service projects initiated by our sister organization in the Philippines (aka Maharlika - the uncolonized name). Atmajyoti has successfully organized and completed many projects in recent years ranging from the Sails of Hope project after the Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 that replaced fishing boats and livelihoods, to educating youth from tribal areas and continuing humanitarian support for these areas, with school supplies, shoes, and food, depending on the needs of the moment. Due to Covid 19, the areas are more isolated than ever and in desperate need of support. After a year of not being able to travel, Atmajyoti is determined to reach the tribal areas with much needed food aid, and to assess their ongoing needs. Below is her letter detailing the project. Letter from Atmajyoti (Ellen Trazo):

The Social Service of Ananda Seva Mission in Maharlika with the Indigenous People started four years ago when we provided a shelter we called “Bahay Pangarap” to the IP high school students who came from farflung areas of the mountains of Marilog of Matigsalog tribes and Ata tribes from Tipakis, Paquibato District.

We extended our outreach programs to the communities where our IP high school students by providing school supplies to the tribal elementary children, giving books, assist in their livelihood through selling of the Matigsalog woven baskets.

This pandemic brought by the Covid Virus, made the situations more difficult for the IP communities, one of the neglected and poverty stricken as they are situated in the remote areas far from schools, hospitals.

On the occassion of the 100 years birthday of Baba, we would like to give pack of rice to the 160 families of the Ata and Matigsalog. We need 14 sacks of rice with 50 kilos per sack which will cost us $ 50 dollar per sack Again we would like to request of financial help so this birthday of the Lord can bring joy to our tribal communities and smiles to the IP children

We will also be bringing used clothing, shoes, school supplies which we solicited here locally.
