Goals For Kids
Covid-19 changed the lives of many of us, and all of a sudden, things were not normal anymore. Things that we were accustomed to doing were all of a sudden taken away from us by this pandemic. Months passed by, and things here in Texas began to change for the better, and little by little Texas began to re-open right around as summer break came along for kids. Understanding that kids were not going to have many options out there in regards to summer programs, my brother in-law formed and created a free summer league for kids of different age groups and I am a volunteer coach. We understood that many families had been impacted financially by this pandemic and we wanted to give back to the community and allow kids to take part in a summer activity, and this case it was soccer. Many kids signed up for this free summer activity and we were ready to launch this program when the individual in the hat posted in this campaign tried to go at all costs to prevent us from using the soccer fields located in Floresville Texas. This individual runs a kids soccer league in town and for some reason was really upset at us for using the fields that he went on the record to claim that the fields belonged to him. After verifying with the city of Floresville, it turns out that the fields belong to the city and we got the green light to use the fields. The next day as we are driving by the fields, we noticed that the soccer nets in the goals were gone. Turns out this individual claimed the nets were his and decided to take them off so that we would not use them. Luckily one of our volunteer coaches, offered for us to use his soccer nets and things were good to go again. We had our first game on Saturday 6/20 and we had a great turnout from players families for this free program. During our practice on 6/22, the gentlemen pictured above disrupted our practice session and walked into the middle of the field and began yelling at us as to why we were using his goal posts. Given that we were under the impression that they belonged to the city, weexplained to him that we had verified with the city about the fields. He did not care that we were doing this at no cost for the kids and threatened to take the goal posts this week because they are his. While it is discouraging to see that an adult is preventing these local kids from doing and enjoying a free recreational sport, there is not much that we can do to stop him from taking his goal posts. We have looked into buying to goal posts for this field for our soccer program use but they are at a very high price. We are hoping and would appreciate any help that we can get in order to help us towards the purchase of these goal posts for the kids in order for them to continue enjoying the sport that they love and so that we can continue to provide a free soccer league for our community. All that we do is at zero cost for the kids. The coaches volunteer for free and kids parents volunteer by bringing snacks and drinks for the kids. This is what it all should be about with how dark times are in this world. Thank you for your contributions.
