Smith Family lost everything in house fire
Beschermde donatie
On October 8, my good friend Mike Smith had a unfortunate incident happen to him and his family...their home burnt to the ground along with every possession they owned. Mike’s wife Laura was able to get herself and their four dogs out of the house, but left everything else. Mike is the Sheriff for Wheeler County Oregon and he responded to his own house fire knowing his home was fully engulfed in flames and that everything he owned was lost. Mike has renters insurance, but as we know they don’t cover a lot of things that were lost in the fire and they take a long time to cut a check.
Mike wrote this below paragraph the following day on his Facebook account
“Yesterday, I lost my home and everything in it. I feel very fortunate and am thankful to God that I didn't lose my wife and pets too. Thanks to all the incredible volunteer fire fighters from Spray and WCFR. You guys were truly amazing. I'm humbled by the amazing amount of support I have received from the community. I have been given a place to stay, clothing and food. You can't imagine how good that feels when you've lost everything. I can't imagine a better place to live. Thank you all.”
Mike and his family literally have the clothes on their back as their only possession along with their four dogs his wife Laura was able to escape the fire with. The Smith Family are in need of clothing, housewares, toiletries, food, dog food, pet beds, household furniture and other every day items to help rebuild their life before winter comes. I am asking for anybody to spare a little help Mike and his amazing family and their four dogs during this difficult time. Any amount will help them out as they are in need of many items right now. Thank you for your support!
**Update** so Mike contacted me today and told me he is very thankful for all the generosity and donations to help him and his family recover from this terrible tragedy. Mike told me he has spoken to the Oregon ethics board about this Go Fund Me campaign to be above board and to be transparent. Mike said that because he is Sheriff of Wheeler County he has to be careful with the amount of the donations from citizens within Wheeler County or anybody that contracts or has business with the Sheriffs office of Wheeler County. Mike told me going forward that everybody that donates to this Go Fund Me campaign the donor has to leave their name and CANNOT be anonymous. Also if any residents or business partners in Wheeler County cannot do more than $50 per person as a donation.
Thank you all for your understanding as we all want to help Mike and his family get back on their feet and not create him anymore problems.
