Small Town TX Harvey Relief

Tax deductible
Hi, my name is Jessica Bergstrom.

The photo above is the house of a woman named Blanche Hlavinka. She was my mother's classmate.

Many of you may (and some of you may not) know that I was born in Texas. My whole family is from there, and many remain in the Houston area in rural Wharton County, about 60 miles southwest of Houston. Both of my parents grew up in Wharton County and my grandmother, aunts, uncle, great aunt and cousins remain.

The county seat, Wharton, is right on the Colorado River and the San Bernard River also runs through the county. Both rivers crested at record levels as a result of Hurricane Harvey and many people there have lost homes, businesses and more. There will be a lot of help going to Houston, and Houston will definitely need it, but these small towns outside of the city will likely be forgotten or left behind in the aftermath.

I know the task of figuring out where to send your money for it to be most effective is a daunting one. Oftentimes, I feel leery of sending money to huge organizations because I don't know for sure how it will be used.

So, because this is such a personal issue for me, because my heart breaks to watch my parents' hometowns drown, I want to ask for your help to directly effect that community. I am teaming up with Grace Community Fellowship in Wharton to help them help this community rebuild.

If you're looking for some way to help, please consider donating here.

Funds will be used to aid Wharton County residents who have lost their homes, experienced severe damage to their homes or property and who may require assistance in other ways (i.e. food, clothing, home appliances) to get back on their feet in the wake of this storm.
