Don't let Ziggy become stardust
I have been picking strays from the streets of San Antonio for 30 years but I have never seen a dog like Ziggy. This pit bull mama was found on the side of the road in St. Hedwig, lying
on a sweatshirt next to a bloody rope. Finder, Kaitlynn Stoltz said"When I first saw her, I thought she was dead and when she saw me she walked up to me and started wagging her tail! "
To cut a long story short, Ziggy has been at my vet's since Thursday, May 18th and while she has a long road ahead of her, I think she's going to
make it!
Besides being generally malnourished, Ziggy was crawling with fleas and subsequently has severe anemia with only 10% in red blood cells. The normal range is 35-55%. Dr. Evans recommended a blood tranfusion to see if it would perk Ziggy up, it did! Ziggy has heart worms, of course. Her body condition is terrible and she couldn't stand when I first snatched her up but is already standing, wagging her tail in her kennel. Dr. Evans and I agreed that the best thing for both of us (I already have 5 dogs) would be for Zig to stay at the vet's over the weekend until she is strong enough to come home on Monday. I visited her yesterday and she couldn't even lift her head. I told her that nobody would ever hurt her again.
Thank you to all the people who have already donated toward her care. So far, I have paid $500 to the vet, but eventually Ziggy will need heartworm treatment, spay etc. when she feels better and I need your help to pay for all of this.
Love for Ziggy, while rehabbing at mine? That, I have. Zig will be up for adoption once she is strong and well.
I will be certain to post regular updates. Thank you.
